PlayBasic Description
PlayBasic is a powerful game making language for windows. It was designed to make game programming more accessible for everybody from beginners to seasoned game developers. Enabling you to bring your game ideas to life in a fraction of the time of other languages.
PB achieves this, by including as many built in features as possible. Letting you focus more on constructing your games, than learning the in depth techniques behind it. It's this approach, that makes PlayBasic one of the best gateways to learning game programming on the PC. Moreover, it's similar to various traditional basic languages from Dark Basic right through to older languages like AMOS (Amiga) and STOS (Atari ST).
One of PlayBasic best features is it's focus upon compatibility first. Now by keeping the system requires low, doesn't mean you can't create stunning real time effects, of course you can! The benefit is that you don't require the latest video hardware to use PlayBasic effectively. Nor do the games you create with it. Ensuring they'll work on as many systems as possible. Which allows you to easily share your creations with the world.
Since PlayBasic focuses upon game creation, it includes a wealth of real time graphical features & effects. From Mapping, Sprites, Image effects, 2D Cameras, Vector Shapes & Collision, Texture Mapping through to a full set of traditional 2D vector art. The graphics engine also supports various special effects like Alpha Blending (variable, additive, subtractive), Rotation, Scaling, logical masking through to Raster Bar and real time Colour Replacement just to name a few.
The PlayBasic package comes with a comprehensive program editor, with integrated searchable help, built in debugger and over 400 examples to get you started.
